I've been doing some major photo shooting to beef up my portfolio ladies so I thought I'd share a few shots with you from a shoot last week with photographer Daniel Murtagh.  The look was simple beauty, nothing too overdone, reminiscent of an Anthropologie/Free People type of ad.  These are actually some of my favorite types of looks to create because although you would think it's easy peasy to make someone (especially a model) look so effortlessly gorgeous and unmade up--it is quite a daunting task to make someone look as if they aren't wearing a drop of makeup.  'The No Makeup' makeup!  Interested in copping this look for yourself?  It would be perfect for Labor Day Weekend...so here we go:

1. Begin with a sheer liquid foundation that isn't going to give you too much coverage such as my beloved L'Oreal True Match or Makeup For Ever Face and Body foundation.  Your goal here is dewy, flawless skin, with light to medium coverage.

2.  Next, on the eyelids apply a neutral eyeshadow with a satin finish to give an ever so slight amount of iridescence (no disco shimmer!)  I like a peachy, shell color for lighter skin and a bronze or rose gold shade for browner skin.  Here I used Tarte Lock & Roll in Sandstone. We were shooting outside and it was quite humid....Lock & Roll is a 12 hour water proof crease proof shadow with a cream shadow on one end and a loose powder shadow in a coordinating shade on the other...life saver.

3.  The tiniest bit of liner tightly smudged into the top lashline and half way across along the bottom lashline for a bit of definition.  I used a teak brown shade.  Lately I've been completely 'ride or die' about Sephora's eye pencils.  Why?  They glide on, deliver pigment exponentially and....they're like $3 to $5!  I'm not kidding.

4.  The cheeks are important here.  "But Kim,  I don't like to wear blush" girl, I hear you, and today is the day you get over it.  Nothing makes you look quite as refreshed as a little blush.  Do not go all Dolly Parton on me and panel blush from the apples of you cheeks to the temples of your forehead and back down to your chin.  Of course that's not natural.  Take a wee bit of cream blush--it'll give you better control--on your index finger as if you were being finger printed, and press one finger on each cheek and then blend it lightly.  I like to blend backwards and do so lightly, do not commence to rubbing your cheeks in a 'rug burn' type of fashion it will ruin the look. Here I used MAC Blushcreme in 'Posey' for darker skin try the shade 'Laid Back'

5.  The lips are only slightly more pigmented than the model's own.  My goal was to make them look a bit more mauve-like but not overdone, more like a stain.  The truth is I blended about 4 shades to achieve this hue but fret not there are tons of pinky, plumy lip stains out there that will have you captivated in no time.  For instance Josie Maran has a Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain that is non-drying and it comes in a pen form...mixing 'Foxtrot' and 'Jitterbug' will get you there luvs.

6.  Last but certainly not least swipe on a few coats of your go-to mascara and you'll be good to go.  Check below for a couple more images from that shoot.  There are more photo shoot recaps to come...did an amazing vintage Bettie Page-esque look that I can't wait to share!  Keep those eyes peeled. <3<3<3!
