The Right Stuff: Beauty Icon Vanessa Williams

I remember this album and I remember this video...vividly.  Vanessa Williams circa 1988 "The Right Stuff".  Her face was flawless and right there at that moment I wanted to wear bold lipstick because I knew it was the answer to everything...at the very least it would certainly give me the right stuff...right??  My fierce mother would be having none of the lipstick wearing until 4 yrs. later when I was 16....and even today I remember my first tube of Covergirl Lipslicks.

It wasn't really lipstick per se, it was actually more of a lipstain/gloss hybrid but I looooooooved it!  I remember being in NY with my family because my Dad was running the marathon and us going into a drugstore to get it.  It was a big deal for me....I got the yellow tube which was a bronzy lip color and of course the RED tube.  Never forgetting Ms. Vanessa Williams in all her bright puckered glory I slathered it on rather heavily...like 10 coats heavily...trying to achieve that lipstick look and as tacky as I may have looked, (my Mom tried to deter me to no avail) I am quite sure it at least lent some shape to the makeup artist/beauty yoda I am today--just with a lot more style...a steadier hand...and most definitely....The Right Stuff.   And yes, I STILL have a thing for red lipstick...I wear it almost every single day.  Let's pay homage to Ms. Vanessa with The Right Stuff video below...and maybe, just maybe I'll grab a CG Lipslick while I'm out today for old times sake. ;)

The lipslicks "aren't" not "weren't" more of a lipstick. They are still sold and still awesome.

^ Yep! An oft-forgotten little gem, in my opinion. They are cheap and wonderful for lighter makeup days.

I love wearing Red lipstick! It's so empowering. Everyone notices and I love all the compliments I get. You know, a girl can't get too many compliments
